Zhang Zhili, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, and Alfredo Fratti, Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries of Uruguay, co-chaired the 3rd meeting of the China–Uruguay Joint Committee on Agriculture in Changchun, Jilin Province, on May 22. The meeting reviewed recent progress in China–Uruguay agricultural cooperation, discussed issues of mutual concern, and identified key areas for future cooperation.
Vice Minister Zhang said that under the strategic guidance of the heads of both countries, China–Uruguay cooperation mechanisms have been continuously refined; agro-product trade has steadily increased; scientific and technological exchanges have been advanced in an orderly manner; and policy coordination has become more effective. China is willing to work with Uruguay to fully leverage the mechanism of the Joint Committee on Agriculture under the framework of the Five-Year Plan for Improving Agricultural Cooperation (2024–2028), continuously enhance cooperation in agricultural S&T, deepen cooperation on beef cattle and other germplasm resources, and boost agricultural economic and trade cooperation, so as to propel continuous development of China–Uruguay agricultural cooperation.
Minister Fratti highly endorsed the proposal to deepen bilateral agricultural cooperation, expressing expectation that the two sides will prioritize advancing the Uruguay–China demonstration farm and the joint laboratory for sustainable beef cattle production and breeding, so as to elevate bilateral agricultural cooperation to a new level.
Following the meeting, Vice Minister Zhang and Minister Fratti attended the reception ceremony for Uruguayan breeding cattle. Huang Qiang, Secretary of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, attended the ceremony and delivered remarks
